Started Made IT on April 1st 1997, because I felt there was too little free information available about connectivity. The documents are still available at ckp.made-it.com.

Have build my own Linux distro, in july 2000, as a showcase for GNUstep, named LastStep and terminated the project Januari 2002 due to a lack of time.

For the future I want to stay within the connectivity or datacommunication area. What I have always liked out computers is the interaction between them. I would like to explore some more the satellite business, wirless setups and the upcoming VoIP systems.

I would like to be working with systems that enable people to communicate.

SNV is a Netherlands-based, international development organisation that provides advisory services to nearly 1800 local organisations in over 30 developing countries to support their fight against poverty.

My function

• Started as Project Officer ICT Infrastructure and on 1st januari 2005 became Specialist Datacommunication
• Responsible for the security of the network
• Setup and maintain a new corporate network based on satellite connections (101 offices worldwide)
• Structured the network so outsourcing would be possible.

Gained knowledge

• With my manager and a project manager we set out 2 European tenders for the satellite communication system. So we learned a lot about how to handle tenders.
• Visited a couple of the SNV country offices, which learned me a lot about different cultures and habits.
• Setup my first VoIP server with Asterisk

Linux Consultant at Stone IT

The company

Stone IT is a Linux consultancy company. It helps people to deploy Linux in a business environment. Stone IT started as Stone IT Services when I joined the company in 1999, and continued it's life as Stone IT in Januari 2001.

My function

• Helping people with using Linux in business environments, with the installation of SuSE, Red Hat, Caldera and/or Debian.
• System administration and support on-site.
• System administration and support by phone and remote network connections.
• Network documentation.

The company

Tulip is supplier, and developer of computer systems, ranging from laptops to high end servers.

My function

Product Support for all Tulips computer systems around the world. We where the last support line, before the R&D department. This involved trouble shooting hardware, Windows and Novell.

SRS is a supplier of retail automation.

My function

Reorganize the Technical Departement, build a technical documentation center, systemengineer on all the RS6000-networks (about 10) running AIX, together with 3 colleagues. Maintain cash-registers at customers sites.

Customer Support Engineer at Black Box Datacom BV

The company

Black Box Datacom BV is the Dutch subsidiary of Black Box Inc. in the United States. They sell datacommunication equipment through a catalogue.

My function

• Telephonic support of customers (pre- and after-sales) on the entire range of Black Box products (modems, switches, bridges, routers, hubs, video converters, cables, multiplexers, etc.).
• Manager of the PABX
• Sysadmin on Novel 3.12 network
• Build the Dutch Black Box web-site.

• More about the different serial and parallel interfaces, like RS232, RS422, RS485, Parallel, SCSI, VGA, PS/2 etc. And the conversions between the different standards
• More about the different networking protocols and interfaces like, ethernet, token ring, arcnet, etc.
• More about the telecom interfaces like X.21, V.35, ISDN, Framerelay, ATM, etc.
• The different devices needed for the different above mentioned interfaces and protocols, like routers, modems, switches, bridges, video converters, multiplexers, and the like.

Technical Service Employee at EBC BV

The company

EBC is a company that provides security equipment. They build their own units and have therefor their own technical service.

My job

During my trainee period I wrote for them a complete new systems and maintenance manual. After I finished school, they asked me to help them for three months to cover the christmas period. During this short period I did all sorts of things, ranging from repairing defective units, to testing long range radar equipment, helping on site with some installations and writing chrismas cards ;-)
